ABOUT CORNEAL COLLAGEN CROSS LINK IN TURKEY

CORNEAL COLLAGEN CROSS-LINKING (CXL) IS A TECHNIQUE USED TO TREAT CONDITIONS LIKE KERATOCONUS, POST-LASIK ECTASIA, AND CORNEAL MELTING DISORDERS. IT IS AN EFFECTIVE METHOD TO STRENGTHEN THE CHEMICAL BONDS IN THE CORNEA USING UV LIGHT AND A PHOTOSENSITIZER. BY DOING SO, IT CAN HELP STABILIZE AND STRENGTHEN THE CORNEA, POTENTIALLY PREVENTING FURTHER PROGRESSION OF THESE CONDITIONS.

Following irradiation antibiotic drops will be given and a bandage contact lens may be placed.

Male and females who are over the age of 12 and whose corneas cannot be too thinned or too scarred for the procedure.

Patients must be at a good health condition and be healthy mentally and physically.

BEFORE CORNEAL COLLAGEN CROSS LINK

  • Patients must not wear contact lenses at least 3 days before the surgery.

  • Patients can start wearing contact lenses after 3 weeks from the surgery.

FIRST DAY

The patient will attend a consultation with the ophthalmologist and will be advised about the procedure and their condition. The patient will then  be taken through couple of tests that are required before the treatment. If desired, patients can spend the day to rest and attend the clinic the next day.

SECOND DAY

Corneal Cross Linking Surgery will be performed. Corneal cross linking surgery takes at least 30 minutes to per eye to be performed if both eyes  are being treated then the surgery will take approximately an hour and half.
